Fansipan Trek: 15 Ways up Vietnam’s Highest Peak

22 tours  ·  from $64 a head

There is a cable car, and there is the two-day walk, and the people who take the second one are not doing it for the summit marker. These 15 compare the routes from Sapa, the overnight camp and what the cable-car descent adds.

Start at 6:00 am from Sapa and climb Fansipan from Tram Ton Pass with a private English-speaking guide. The 24 km route gains about 1,600 to 1,700 meters and takes 10 to 12 hours. Expect forest, streams, flowers, a picnic lunch, and a cable car option for the descent.

“The service was excellent right from booking the trip (got an almost instant message to share more about the trip and getting the info required), picking up (prompt with reminder) to the hike itself. We had a guide to our party of two. The guide Cho was friendly and allowed us to go our own pace. Lunch was tasty. We took the cable car down and were given a ride back to our hotel in Sapa. We really enjoyed ourselves and recommend this.”

Climb Vietnam’s 3,143-meter Fansipan with an English-speaking guide, porter, meals, permits, sleeping gear, and transport from Sa Pa. You’ll hike through pine and bamboo forest, sleep at 2,800 meters, and reach the summit around 7:30 AM. Guides may include Sinh or Cha, but assignments vary.

“I did the two days guided hike with my 60-year old father, it was quite the trip but doable. The base camp was very unorganized, they did treat us really well. Our guide, Cha (if that is how you spell it), was very nice. He answered all our questions while easily going up the sometimes steep hills. The only thing less fun was talking people coming in while we were sleeping, the tour had nothing to do with this though.”
